Pretty much all of us, have experienced air conditioning in one form or another. From keeping you cool whilst in the car, to being kept comfortable whilst shopping at your favourite clothes outlet. Air conditioning is now an essential part of the modern world.
However, air conditioning is still overlooked for the domestic market especially here within the UK. Most people assume that domestic air conditioning consists of having a mobile/portable unit purchased from the local DIY centre. Unfortunately, people will of purchased one of these, hoping that'll be the end of their sleepiness nights in the summer months - actually it'll most likely caused an even worse nights sleep! Mobile/portable units are very noisy when in operation and not terribly effective in cooling the area down. After a few attempted uses with this type of system, it'll end up collecting dust in the spare room or garage. We shall endeavour to provide a brief guide on the best domestic air conditioning units below to avoid costly mistakes. Wall Mounted Wall mounted air conditioning units are probably the most common style of air conditioning system in use. They are fairly easy to install and very easy to keep clean and maintain. When selecting the location of your wall unit installation, the best idea, if possible, is to select an outside wall. This will enable you to take the interconnecting pipework easily to the outside area through a hole directly behind the air handler. This will make your pipework and cables invisible to the occupants of the room, and it makes for a super neat looking installation. These units can be installed pretty much anywhere that has sufficient high wall space, they are very suited for bedrooms as some models when on a low fan speed only have a noise rating of 19dBA - human whispering is rated at 30dBA. Below are three of the best stylish and most appealing wall mounted air conditioning systems. (Click on the pictures for more information)
Ceiling Cassette
The smartest Air Conditioning installation. A completely unobtrusive ceiling mounted cassette air conditioning system. Even the air handler itself is very unobtrusive with only the low profile fascia showing below the ceiling level. The main body of the air handler is suspended within the ceiling void and all pipework and electrical connections are therefore concealed above the ceiling. These types of system are normally installed in such areas like offices and shops. However if you have a large area at home with a suitable ceiling void, then this could be the ideal solution. Below are three of the most popular for domestic applications. (click on the pictures for more information)
Low Wall mounted
These types of system are ideal low wall mounted option for conservatories and loft conversions or any other area that has limited high wall space. These units are designed to be mounted with their backs close to a suitable wall. The pipe and electrics entry is sited at the back of the air handler and this allow the pipes and connection to be taken through the wall that the unit is backed against. This allows for total concealment of all pipework, electrical wiring and drains from inside the room, and gives a very neat finished appearance. Ceiling Ducted
Probably the neatest of all air conditioning systems, as the main air handler is concealed within the ceiling space (sufficient ceiling void is required). This type of system is very handy, especially you want to cool a number of bedrooms. The air handling unit will have ductwork taken from it and fed into the various areas and will terminate with a neat ceiling grille. This is a very quiet option and you will not suffer with any noise at night. Below are some of the most popular for domestic applications. (click on the pictures for more information)
Conclusion
We hope this brief guide has been of some use to you. If you require any help in sizing the correct system or would like help with choosing the best type of unit for you - please do not hesitate to contact us. Did you know modern air conditioning systems also heat as well as cool? In fact they are so energy efficient they can produce of around 5kW of heat to every 1kW of energy consumed. So why not have the best of both, cooling for the summer months and heat for the rest of the year. Please note: all the suggested systems do come with a related outdoor unit, please bear this in mind if you need to seek permission from landlords, local authorities etc. Related Pages:

R22 Refrigerant Gas now ILLEGALWhen Big Ben struck midnight, welcoming in 2015. It became illegal to use R22 refrigerant gas for the service or maintenance of air conditioning systems within the U.K. If your system is 10 years or older, there is a very good chance that it operates on this refrigerant. Along with the gas now obsolete, spare parts for your old system, will also more then likely be discontinued too. There is a very good chance that your R22 system is a non-inverter and this will draw a lot more electricity to run, then a nice, shiny, sleek modern inverter system. The advantages of Inverter controlled air conditioning systems is considerable, especially in domestic situations where quiet operation is required and only low current mains electrical supplies are available. We will also attempt to give some of the other main reasons. 1. Inverter controlled systems mean that the actual mains electrical power being fed to the compressors is converted and controlled to a high degree. The Inverter electronically converts a standard 240v electrical mains supply at 50cycles into an internally used three phase electrical supply with a control over the cycles. The compressor speed operation is therefore controlled to exactly match the room temperature requirements. There is no over cooling, and no over heating, which gives a tremendous operational saving on power supplies. 2. The low start current from an Inverter control avoids the usual start up dips in the mains electrical supplies that can often disturb sensitive computer or television equipment. The Mains electrical supplies to the equipment can also be downsized to save on cable and breaker sizes. 3. Low operating power of both indoor and outdoor units allow the systems to operate almost silently. 4. The most important factor of these systems however is that they fall within the list of air conditioning equipment that comply with the Department for Environment requirements for energy saving in low carbon technologies. For this listed equipment the Government has drawn up an Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme to provide very generous Tax concessions. Not only is this a generous Tax incentive but, better than any sales pitch we can provide, it also demonstrates very clearly indeed, how very economical heat pump air conditioning is to operate, against any other form of heating. This ECA scheme enables a business to claim 100% first year capital allowances on their spending on qualifying plant and machinery. Business can effectively write off the whole of the capital cost of their investment in these technologies against their taxable profits of the period during which they make the investment. This will not only give you the most sophisticated equipment with the best economical operating costs, you will virtually end up with it courtesy of the Tax Man. We shall be pleased to provide full details and Inland Revenue guidance on this Government aid if you are interested in taking advantage of it. Also, the Government web site for more details of this scheme is:- www.eca.gov.uk Otherwise if you would do discuss replacing your old R22 system, then why get in touch with us. |
